So what did y’all think about the “Let’s Get Together
Spring Affair event? It looked
like FIDA was having a goooooood time!!!!
95% FIDA members, 5% (4 Guests).
Of the 95% FIDA Members, 75% were from 618 Fulton St. It was just us and only us. Just like we had DJ Earon play in the attic
back in the early 2000’s, I invite certain DJ’s (from time to time) that I
think would represent the many colors & tempos of Soulful Dance Music and
its derivatives. Our special, surprise
guest DJ, Jihad Muhammad presented classic R&B Dance/Club, Electro-Funk,
classic Italo-Disco, Jazz Funk & Fusion, Gospel & Rock side of FIDA the
way we do it! When he dropped the Clark
Sisters “Hiya”, a 618 FIDA classic, it blew me way as did Kano’s “Can’t Hold
Back”, a recent FIDA favorite. I gave
him some “genre” direction and to keep it vocal. He took us on a journey from mid to late
80’s Club Zanzibar, early 90’s Club Shelter, a few abstract cuts and some new
vocal joints thrown in. He even dropped some Classic Hip Hop, Run DMC’s,
“Sucker MC’s”, we lost it!!! He went up
and down, left to right effortlessly. His
history, experience and turntable dexterity was evident in his programming,
blending and overlays. The full playlist for your review is featured below. I enjoyed
his set immensely and from the looks from the dance floor, the FIDA members did
too. Eric Wigfall, another special,
surprise DJ who opened up the evening with Nu Jazz, Nu Soul, Broken Beat and
other musical goodies. He kinda puts you
in the mind of Rahbu, deep, eclectic, and “to the left”. Check out Eric's opening set playlist below.
For those who may not
understand our door policy, here’s how it goes. If you are a member, it is $10. You must have a current application on file
and have taken the musical exam.
Registered guests are those who are transitioning to becoming full
fledged members, it is $12 for them. Registered guests must have a current
application on file and take the music exam.
If you are a FIDA member and want to bring a guest, please e-mail:
flowerzindattic98@gmail.com prior to the event.
Your guest pays $12 otherwise it is $15.
For those “Negros off-da-street”, the “walk-ins” it is $15.
The door prices have gone up due to the rising costs of space, sound
engineer and equipment. However, The
good news is that I’ve confirmed with Marco Hall that we can move forward with
the next FIDA event, “The 45rpm Get Down Series” featuring on the decks myself
and Jonesy back at his boutique 28 Halsey St. Newark, Sunday, May 26th. At least Marco understands the culture, the
vibe and we have a good relationship.
Anyhow…on to the Thank You’s.: To my Humble family,
Anetra and Kendall thank you for holding down the door. Beat Brothas Drey & Snuka, thanks for
coming, Kim Faison, Phyllis Wells and Jamison Braye you go above and beyond and

Renita, Kevin, Polo, Cliff, Stephanie & Tony, Edie (Carlton), Urbi
(Ernest), Yaminah, Gabe D.) 20+ years and we’re still hangin’ in there,
Yaminah, thank you my love and we’re going to take care of that. Thanks for come out Charli, Deidre, and
Lakeva (Lakeva, the door system would work better if we had more space😂!!!) Rob & Pookie, so glad y’all came out! Thank you Manami, Misty & Andre I miss
y’all, it was so so good to see you both, ya’ll looked FABULOUS!!!!, Judy and
Jerome y'all hardly left the dance floor!!!
Thank you Crystal my love, & Eric (you did your thing…but no Afro
Tech next time!!!) Thank you Saadat for coming down, also I want to thank you
for inviting me to play at your Floorwerks event.
To all the FIDA Members and FIDA Registered Guests who came out, I want to say thank you and thank you those of you who also come out to Essentials with Ceaser Kelley (Ceaser, you know you’re the BEST!!!) and Mr. X. and my other party, Humble Beginnings where we share our soul through music. These events would not exist without YOU! Once again, thank you Jihad, everyone seemed to have had a blast, FIDA and I greatly appreciate you coming down and taking us on that wonderful musical journey. Hope to see you all on the 26th. Be blessed, live your best life, keep looking up and beyond, be responsible for you, and love yourself. Remember you can’t control what others do but you can control yourself. We all have report card with the Most High!
